CARE OF YOUR WILLOW BASKET

Firstly it is important to note that the best environment for your willow basket is indoors, away from intense sunlight and any prolonged source of dampness. However occasional short-term display outdoors should not be detrimental to the condition of your willow basket as long as the following specific guidelines and care regime are followed.

Willow is a natural and strong material that needs a modicum of care and attention to keep it in good condition. Containing natural pigments, it reacts in a similar manner to wood furniture when placed in direct sunlight. The bright sun will bleach the colors making the vibrancy fade. However, in indirect sunlight the colors will stand up very well to the test of time.

Willow benefits from a light misting of water once or twice a year. Either place the basket outside when it is raining lightly or spray in the shower. A handheld plant spray also works very well. Once showered do not force dry your willow basket, for example do not use an electric hair dryer - allowing the basket to dry naturally is the best for the long term care of your basket. Also, be careful not to wrap up your basket whilst still damp. Should this happen mould can occur (just like damp clothing!).

Finally, willow baskets make beautiful focal points and center pieces for outdoor summer evening parties - don’t allow them to remain outside should a heavy and prolonged shower take place, and do remember to take them back indoors at night into a dry environment.
